Drawing with Stitches

Draw with your sewing machine

Draw with your sewing machine

Create illustrations on fabric with free motion embroidery
even if you can't draw a straight line

From basic line drawings to exquisite embroidery with a handmade look, create any artwork you desire.
With just thread, fabric scraps, and a hoop, the creative world is at your fingertips.

I've been embroidering on my sewing machine for years

I've always been terrible at free hand drawing but always in love with art.
I once tried to draw with thread on my straight stitch industrial machine.
It did work but it was very hard, it broke needles and chewed my fabric.
I then started to research on how that could be done easier.

Eventually I figured out how to set up the machine to work freely and I got a domestic machine for that.
I would thrift shirts, embroider a line drawing on it and add my label. Those shirts sold like hot cakes so I kept learning how to improve my skills.
I then found out that back in the day, about 100 years ago, they invented a machine to mimic hand embroidery and it was pretty much free motion zigzag. I had to learn that too, of course.
And let me tell you:
It works on any sewing machine!

After years of selling such pieces, every time I share my creations on social media artists ask many questions about my process. That's why I created this NEW online course.

I absolute love Vania’s encouraging teaching style as well as her ideas. And the fact that she uses mostly thrifted clothing and fabrics as part of her designs was right up my alley.

There's one downside to this practice: It's highly addictive! I think due to the relaxing side of it. It makes you calm and focused when you embroider so you keep wanting to go back to it. At least that's what happens to me!
And it's all about the process. You won't become a pro at machine embroidering overnight but I'm sure you'll fall in love with the practice of it. It's truly a wonderful activity to do.

What's in the course?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You just need to know how to operate a sewing machine. If you can make stitches on a piece of fabric you can embroider too. The process of FME is different than sewing itself so you don't really need to be good at sewing.

Yes. And in my opinion an old machine is even better. If it's in working order, doing good regular stitches an old machine is a perfect piece to do FME.

Once enrolled, this course is yours to keep. You can watch the tutorials as many times as you want!

No you won't. I always like to keep things simple! You'll need your sewing machine, a hoop, thread and some fabric. In the first module I share more materials that you could use to enhance your work it's not required.

As a creative, I can get bogged down with perfectionism. When I fall into that rabbit hole, I hear Vania telling me to #getitgoing and that imperfections are beautiful too.
